FAQs:

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a highly relaxed, yet very focus state of being.  Everyone experiences hypnosis many times throughout their day.  A common example is when you daydream or when you are "listening" to someone but not hearing a word they say.  The sensation of hypnosis is similar to the feeling right before you sleep.

Will I be asleep, unconscious, or "knocked-out"?
This is a common misconception about hypnosis because most people who are deeply relaxed often close their eyes.  Imagine being at the symphony, while listening to the music if you were to close eyes, you would not be asleep.  In fact the intensity of the music would be amplified and you would have a deeper concentration of the various elements of the orchestra.  In a similar way, while in hypnosis, you will not fall asleep or loose awareness.  Instead, you will have increased attention and ability to focus on achieving your desired goals.

Will I be forced to reveal secrets?
Hypnosis is not like a "truth-serum".  You will not divulge any information that you do not wish to share. You will be in full control of your thoughts and aware of everything while in hypnosis and afterward.    Thus, you can not be forced to say or do anything.  You remain in control of your mind and body at all times.

Is it true that only gullible or weak-minded people can be hypnotized?
This, too, is a misconception.  In fact, people of above average intelligence make the best subjects because they are able to concentrate more deeply on achieving their goals.

I really enjoyed my hypnosis session with you; can we keep meeting weekly or bi-weekly?  I have a lot of stuff I want to work on.
I am happy to work with return clients.   However, it is not necessary that weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly hypnosis sessions take place.  Once we get to the crux of the challenge being addressed and establish desired changes in your subconscious mind (e.g. smoking cessation, over eating, stress, etc.), there is rarely a need to revisit the issue at hand.  Most challenges can be overcome in one session, with the exception of those who suffer PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) as a result of military service, child abuse, or domestic violence.  Ideally, you will take the tools that I share with you in our hypnosis session and incorporate them into your daily routine.  An option to consider for consistent, ongoing work on professional and personal goals could be possibly be achieved by working with a trained and certified individual who specializes in life coaching.  He or she should be well trained to help you achieve ongoing professional and personal goals that you may have.

Does hypnosis eliminate the need to see a doctor?
Hypnosis can be very helpful in healing some illnesses and to ease pain in the body.  However, it can not replace the medical recommendations of a trusted doctor.  Moreover, hypnosis cannot mask illness within the body.  For example, if you have a broken bone, hypnosis will not heal the fracture ... the bone will still broken.  In spite of that, hypnosis can help ease the pain associated with the broken bone until a proper course medical treatment is complete .  One should always seek medical advice from their physician.

I am a Christian, is Hypnosis against my religion?
The level of hypnosis, or relaxation, one reaches while in Hypnosis are the very same as the levels of hypnosis you pass through every day when you fall asleep. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and used for the purposes of helping and healing!  No one will be exerting mind control over you to get you to do evil things.  As a Catholic - Christian myself, I believe that hypnosis is a wonderful gift given to us by God. People of all religious beliefs can benefit from hypnosis.  However, you must be open to the healing possibilities and willing to allow your imagination to flow freely.  That being said, if you do not feel comfortable with the idea of deep relaxation with hypnosis and cannot view it as guided imagery to help you achieve your goals, it will not work for you and you should find something that will work for you.

What is the difference between Hypnosis and Meditation?
Sometimes these terms are used  synonymously.  However, they are different.  With hypnosis you can access your subconscious mind where deeply rooted habits,  fears, or limiting thoughts are often tightly held.  In Hypnosis, we work toward the goal of releasing habits, fears and limiting thoughts, that could potentially prevent you from experiencing life as you wish it to be.  Mindful meditation turns your attention inward in an effort to clear your mind of thoughts.  As such, you are completely focused on the present to "empty your mind", and let go of thoughts.   Through meditation, one can develop concentration, clarity, emotional positivity, and calm that can have a transformative effect.  Meditation, although very powerful, has a much more broader focus than Hypnosis.  Hypnosis is often used as behavior modification tool directed at achieving a specific goal (e.g. smoking cessation, weight loss, release of stress, fears, or anxiety) through concentrated focus.

Will I be in a trance or disconnected from the experience?
Not at all!   Think about a time when you were lying in bed, not quite awake and not quite asleep, either.   It's a very peaceful, pleasant, relaxed state. You're aware of things going on around you (such as music playing, the wind blowing, traffic outside, etc.), but you are so thoroughly relaxed, you just don't care.  This is a similiar experience you will reach during hypnosis. You will always be aware of what's going on around you; you will just be intensely focused on staying relaxed. You are always in control.  While in hypnosis, you will be in a heightened state of awareness. You will feel more in tune with yourself and more connected with your mind than ever before.

Has anyone ever been hurt by hypnosis?
Hypnosis has been used for thousands of years, since the time of the ancient Egyptians and Grecians who used it in their healing temples.   In all these years, there are no known cases of any one ever being hurt by hypnosis.  The truth is, all hypnosis is "self-hypnosis", which means that you will only accept hypnotic suggestions that are for your higher good.  We all have an innate self-preservation system that keeps us safe.  If during hypnosis, if you have any fears of bring harmed (even perceived fears of bring harmed), you will immediately be alerted and return to a normal waking state.
